It is so hard to get low-salt canned beans, and the pressure cooker takes care of dried beans in 20 - 30 minutes (depending on the bean).

Naked cartwheels in the dining room? It's like theoretically impossible and goes against all laws of nature and filthy cat boxes, um...How many cats do you have anyway? The tools in my shop are the same way.

The proof is the pile of books and three days of NYTimes around my chair, the two tables covered with cookbooks and my wife's chair with a pile of knitting and an indeterminante number of cats.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6434726458328084701.post-6973398250427410652008-03-27T11:01:00.000-04:002008-03-27T11:01:00.000-04:00Yum! Thank you, this is gorgeous.
A Gourmommy friend (she's in that anal CI camp--and I say that with LOVE), and I have been holding what could only be described as food salons DISGUISED as playdates for a while now (the variation on The Three-Martini Playdate?--the three BLINI playdate). We eat, chatter and swoon (no wine, but we did have--GASP!--a wee bit of whiskey in our tea on St. Paddy's Day) while 4 kids 4 and under provide theatrics, "discover" the netherlands of our mutual houses, and occasionally bounce by for a forkful of whatever we're eating. I LOVED that you said about that, by the way.
We might make something which appeals to the kids, but we are not courting them: good food does its OWN wooing. And we like to think we are modeling good behavior, which is adults actively engaged in lively, vital conversation about something other than our children, and breaking bread.
Even if it is the 4,000th version of Irish Soda Bread from the CI test kitchens (not me! I'm the haphazard cook!)[HOARFROST]https://www.blogger.com/profile/10671628052352577727noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6434726458328084701.post-65414298550819775492008-03-27T08:53:00.000-04:002008-03-27T08:53:00.000-04:00OMG. I couldn't stop laughing after that.

All of that "chaos" makes for the bestest memories for everyone.

I love the gathering of neighbors. You live in an aparment, right? Here in the suburbs, it's so sequestered. I long for the casual gatherings like what you have.

I like people.

You had me at "Tuscan Bean Stew with Sausage", btw.Shannonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11082031887238694358noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6434726458328084701.post-19014342485442831462008-03-26T23:57:00.000-04:002008-03-26T23:57:00.000-04:00I always cheat with beans..a hallmark of the disor...I always cheat with beans..a hallmark of the disorganized but well-meaning cook.
