More On The Orange Sweater...

For those of you following along with David's obsession with his orange gardening sweater, the mystery deepens. (If you have no idea what I'm talking about, read my last two posts)

I awoke this morning to an email from my father-in-law in Australia who sent me this picture of David' mum bushwacking with her father in the Royal National Park in Sydney in 1964.

That's right. David's mum was wearing a similar orange sweater before David was even born! Obviously, his obsession is genetic.

This also begs the question, how did my father-in-law even remember this sweater from 1964? Was it so burned into his brain that he knew if he went back to pictures from the 60's he'd find my mother-in-law's orange sweater? Is the orange sweater so memorable it can survive decades of lost thoughts and memories?

Any fantasies I had about secretly getting rid of David's orange sweater are gone. It has special powers now, a lineage, a history. It will, I'm sure, outlive me.

Dammit.

I think you all need orange sweaters. Though I suppose David calls it a jumper (I still do to much confusion!). We need a family pic!

This post cracked me up. How did you FIL remember the orange sweater? That's amazing, I can barely remember what I did two days ago.

Hope you all have a great weekend! maybe you can all find some orange/rust colored sweaters as suggested above :)

See now, I suspected there was more to this story. Maybe it's a self-preservation thing, like hunters who wear orange so they (hopefully) don't get shot.

I think this needs to be a recurring feature, BTW, a la "Where's Waldo?" Post random pictures and see if we can spot David and his orange sweater.

Yes! David calls it a jumper.

And every time he does I see a plaid school dress/jumper from my childhood. With patent leather shoes.

Kills me.

See? This is the question...how did my father-in-law remember that sweater? And will I also remember David's sweater decades from now? Is it like some crazy orange nightmare that will stay with me my whole life?

Questions to ponder...

I am so stalking him with my camera and doing a fashion feature. David gardening in the orange sweater. David taking out the trash in the orange sweater. David feeding the cats in the orange sweater.

I think there could be YouTube videos.

Well, if there is lineage then who do you presume that child will be..is there one more obviously called towards 'orange sweaterdom?'

Funny...much like green bell peppers, I just HATE the color orange unequivocally...crazy, just cringe at the thought. No lineage here...purple on the other hand?

So looking forward to your *orange sweater* fashion feature. Just please, do not shoot pics of David in his sweater in the bath or bed, unless it's a bird bath or garden bed.

Love that David's Dad sent you the pic of his Mom. The man and his sweater is going to go viral!

I love that your f-in-l is such a follower, he actually looked for and sent you a picture. The story, however, is quite uncanny...

HA! Cracked up imagining the David and The Orange Sweater video series. For some reason it sounds like a good name for a children's book.
